Salutations, and thanks for
stopping by to read my blog. My topics
are going to be a bit all over the place, but one thing will remain supreme, my
viewpoint as a man in a society that is changing what the concept of a “man”
is.
When
one hears the word “man” everyone hears it differently. Many men still take a page from the Trey
Parker movie Orgazmo and mentally fist-pump the air and think “I. Am. A.
MAYYYON.” The Mayyon population is
shrinking however as the blazing sun known as machismo is starting to set upon
the glorious evening of sexual equality.
Yet, is this sexual equality really equal?
From a
man’s point of view at least in this period of time, I feel that women have
really been the center stage all along.
Think about it. In our culture
what is usually a teenager’s biggest worry?
One of them certainly is girls. I mean girls literally become all a guy
can think about. Is this equal? We are brought down by the mere thought of
women! Well, there is an answer to
that, and I think it is in the form of porn.
I am kidding! This is from a man’s
point of view, right? Seriously though the answer is the exact opposite of
porn, it comes from being…..well…a man.
What is
a man? I think that being a man is more than just being an age appropriate and
developed male. Is it a level of
maturity? I don’t know. One of my law professors who is quite old,
and unquestionably a man once said, “you all know men never fully mature, we
still like our toys, men just like them more expensive.” So is being a man about your toys? No what he meant is that men are separated from
the boys because we know when to play with the toys, yet we are strong enough
to admit we like the toys. Boiling this
down further I think it comes down to having the strength to play, but also
work hard as hell to make the play seem better.
So it comes down to the work.
Work =
Man? That’s tough! Do I mean work like
in a factory? Or behind a desk? No. I
think the heart of man is forged through dedication, responsibility, and
through the ability to love others while still being true to who they are. That to me is man.
So, am
I a Mayyon? Hell yeah! I like the physical features of women, I like to play hard,
but at the same time, I separate myself from the boy I once was because I am
responsible and caring in the way I do it.
Come join me again as I talk about more things “man”, whether it be
cooking, camping, or anything else that I experience and want to talk
about. If there are any subjects you
would like me to discuss, comment!
Great opening volley, Wayne! The definition of man is indeed changing, and none too soon I would say!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud to be living in a time of ever more leveled playing fields and to be a proponent for such change. You're right though- despite the changes we can't forget "Mayyon"liness.
